The Pitch: Breathing New Life into Old Phones
Our co-founder Uttam Kafle stepped into the tank and pitched Sabko Phone. We sought 2 crores NPR for 20% equity to scale our operations, expand our refurbishment capabilities, strengthen partnerships, and grow our impact against e-waste. https://www.instagram.com/p/DLymNTTtWcS/
The core idea? Tackle Nepal’s growing electronic waste problem while creating economic value. One key stat that resonates: 23 old mobile phones can pollute the environment as much as a car. Nepal generates thousands of tons of e-waste annually, much of which ends up unmanaged. We also highlighted our safe selling process, data privacy focus, hassle-free valuation, and partnerships (like with Samsung Exchange and others). The goal: “Sabai le kinna paaun, sabai le chalauna paaun” — everyone should be able to buy and use good phones.

The Sharks’ Response and Our Decision
We received an offer, which was validating and exciting. However, the equity percentage was higher than we were comfortable with for this stage of our growth. After careful consideration, we respectfully declined to protect our long-term vision and team’s stake in the company.No deal on the show, but the experience was priceless. The exposure, feedback from investors, and massive public attention helped us refine our story and operations.
